- The position requires the employee to have a moderately high level of physical and mental endurance. Frequent temporary duty trips and extended meetings provide a vigorous work load.
- Position requires occasional visits to flight test facilities in all kinds of weather. Incumbent must be capable of climbing around and through weapons loading equipment and scaffolding steps around aircraft for examination, etc.
- Extensive reading and analysis of technical documents is required, and oral/written reports are normal products of this position.
- Work is performed primarily in an office setting. It may be necessary to visit a flight test facility, logistics center and/or an operational base where severe weather may be found. Employee may be required to work overtime
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
- This position has been designated as an acquisition position. Accordingly, the incumbent is expected to meet or be capable of meeting, Defense Acquisition Work Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements applicable to the position.
- Must meet continuing acquisition education requirements. The Acquisition Position Career Category (APCC) of the position is S - Systems Planning, Research, Development, and Engineering Systems Engineering and Scientist (SPRDE) at level 2
- Employee is expected to meet Continuing Acquisition Education requirements.

Additional Qualification Requirement (Specialized Experience). Must have at least 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level (GS-12) or equivalent pay scale serving as a professional electrical engineer with systems engineering responsibility in assigned areas, such as circuit cards & process, nuclear hardening, anti-tamper, sensors, flight test, low observables, guidance, navigation & control, survivability, and nuclear effects & hardening. Considered the technical expert for the organization in electrical engineering assignments concerning weapons systems; employee provides technical leadership in planning, analyzing, and evaluating efforts used to define total weapons system/ subsystem requirements, translate requirement into design criteria, evaluate alternative design approaches and develop system specifications. Work encompasses several phases of the development process in which the employee guides and evaluates the design and development activities of others. This experience must have been at a level of difficulty and complexity sufficient to demonstrate the ability to independently perform the duties of this position. It may have been gained in the private sector, volunteer service, military service, and/or government service, etc.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Professional knowledge and mastery of electronics engineering principles as they pertain to system development and production are required. Demonstrates the capability to evaluate EO, radar, and RF systems performance, guidance, navigation and control systems, fusing/electronics systems, command, control, and communications systems, and EMI/EMC. A degree in engineering or its equivalent, as specified in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Handbook, is required as well as substantial experience and expertise in electronics technology, with particular emphasis on the design, development, and validation of one of the following: guidance, navigation and control systems, seeker/sensors, fusing, command, control and communications systems, or EMI/EMC. Broad technical electronics engineering background and experience and demonstrated ability to integrate technical disciplines. Ability to evaluate the latest developments in the technical field and apply them to armament system development. Knowledge of regulations, policies, and operating instructions and procedures as they pertain to the preparation of technical documents; technical source selections; weapon systems development, and policies at AAC, AFMC, USAF, DoD, and international levels. Ability to demonstrate leadership and technical skills to identify development goals and objectives, develop comprehensive project plans and when necessary, direct ad hoc teams. Ability to recognize and clearly define program deficiencies that may be eliminated through improvements or advances in maintenance systems, automatic test equipment, and logistics support systems. Ability to advocate and justify verbally, and in writing, proposals and decisions to the highest executive levels necessary.
