The Boeing Company F-15 Flight Test Engineering Operations- Entry Level in Eglin AFB, Florida

The Boeing Company is seeking a F-15 Flight Test Engineer for its small and elite Boeing engineering team supporting F-15 flight test activities at Eglin AFB, FL. This support will include both Development Test and Evaluation (DT&E) and Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) flight testing. Principal responsibilities will involve configuring and testing of experimental electronics/avionics and weapon/armament systems, with an emphasis on the coordination of flight test operations activities. The support will focus on the integration and evaluation of new hardware systems, and the correct operation of F-15 aircraft software upgrades. You also will work closely with USAF Customers to assist them with configuring the F-15 aircraft properly for each flight test mission, will work closely with USAF Test Pilots to guide them in how to execute the test missions in flight, and will work closely with aircraft maintenance technicians to assist them with questions about the new systems and coordinate the generation of flight test missions.

The work of flight test brings new, different, challenging, and exciting projects in a constant flow, so you will be routinely exposed to a wide variety of different and interesting projects. It is a fast-paced environment and requires large amounts of personal responsibility, trust, and accountability. The position requires the ability to perform root-cause analysis/troubleshooting to identify and sort actual problems from non-problems is required. These test programs will allow you to get hands-on with cutting edge technology where innovative problem solving is embraced. In this position you will have an opportunity to help plan, evaluate, and test the latest electronic and weapons systems that Boeing and other contractors have created for integration onto F-15 fighter aircraft. You will also be actively involved in on-aircraft testing, working autonomously while conducting system checkouts from the cockpit, and troubleshooting any observed problems with the new systems. You will be provided with self-paced on-site training, and supervised hands-on experience, to aid in becoming a Subject Matter Expert on a variety of aircraft systems – which can range anywhere from onboard radar systems, to electronic jammers, onboard computing systems, radar and IR guided missiles, control systems, jet engines, satellite navigation/communication systems, and encrypted aircraft data networks. Position Responsibilities Include:

  • Daily coordination required to plan, communicate, and execute complex test activities

  • Direct and frequent interaction with Boeing Engineering and USAF personnel (program managers, technical teams, managers/leaders, and aircrew)

  • Aircraft configuration planning, on-aircraft audits, and records keeping

  • Writing and reviewing test plan documents

  • Assisting with test point documentation and tracking

  • Creation of test mission profiles

  • Writing and reviewing aircrew flight cards

  • Attending aircrew pre/post mission briefings

  • Short and long range flight test mission schedule coordination

  • Providing real-time technical support during test flights from a ground control facility

  • Writing various technical results reports

  • On-aircraft system checkouts

  • On-aircraft engineering mission assurance checks

  • On-aircraft troubleshooting of experimental systems for anomaly investigations and resolution

  • Post mission video reviews Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Attendance and participation in Program Review meetings (ITT, PMR, TPWG; Road Map, Executive Reviews, etc.)

  • Attendance and participation in USAF mandated flight test review boards (CCB, ATR/SB, HRB, FTRR, etc.)

  • Review/inputs into Mission Planning (JMPS/CFRS/IMIS) and pre-mission Data Module programming

  • Occasional off-site support for meetings and deployed flight testing will be required (primarily to St. Louis, Holloman AFB, and Nellis AFB). Working outside in all types of weather conditions will be required. Flight test support requirements associated with this job will often require working temporary non-standard labor schedules

Basic Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • Physically capable of climbing a vertical F-15 boarding ladder, twisting/bending in order to enter/exit the F-15 cockpit, and lifting up to 35 lbs

  • Willing and physically capable of working outside in all types of weather conditions: (heat, cold, high humidity, wind, rain, etc)

  • Willing to work temporary non-standard labor schedules (early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and/or holidays) as needed to support flight test activities

  • Must have the ability to work in confined spaces requiring kneeling, crawling, climbing, and bending

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of experience directly interfacing with customers and senior program leadership

  • Experience performing Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) analysis associated with Test & Evaluation

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in: Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace and Engineering Mechanics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Applied Physics, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering degree preferred

Typical Education/Experience:

Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
