BAE Systems Design and Drafting (D&D) Manager in Fort Walton Beach, Florida

Job Description

The Design and Drafting (D&D) Manager will provide functional direction to direct reports including Drafters and Designers primarily utilizing the Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD software. The manager must possess the technical expertise to be able to give highly competent direction to direct reports and know when to seek out expertise when needed.

The D&D Manager will interact with internal customers on a daily basis but occasional external customer interaction is possible and must be highly motivated, ethical representatives of BAE Systems.

The D&D Manager will provide direction and leadership to their team of designers and drafters. He/she will assign and track tasks, collect metrics on performance, and assume PeopleSoft responsibility for direct reports to include timesheets, employee performance reviews, and salary planning. This manager will recruit and conduct interviews of design and drafting candidates, followed by coordination of the onboarding of new hired design and drafting employees

The D&D Manager must be able to solve issues, provide direction to direct reports, and offer solutions to customers, whether internal or external.

The D&D Manager will support program design assignments (approximately 80% of the time) and support the functional organization (approximately 20 % of the time). This position will impact their team and the programs they support across all programs in the business unit.

The D&D Manager will conduct quality checks of the designs and documentation of their team.

Typical Education & Experience

Typically a Bachelor's Degree and 6 years work experience or equivalent experience

Required Skills and Education

Minimum Education / Experience:

Associate Degree with emphasis in engineering drafting/design or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Minimum of twelve years drafting and design experience, including eight years of advanced design applications.

Preferred Skills and Education

Experience with relevant applications in a defense environment.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Proficient in use of applicable CAD equipment and drafting techniques including 3D modeling and manipulation of files.

Proficient in tolerance analysis and geometric dimensioning.

Expert knowledge of ASME Y14 drawing specifications.

Expert knowledge of production methods and understanding of human factors.

Ability to provide direction to a design team.

Expert Knowledge of ERP, PLM and PDM systems.

Ability to develop processes that work within the ISO9001/AS9100 framework and improve work flow and quality.
