Within NPPD, the National Cybersecurity and Communications Center (NCCIC) is responsible for helping the civilian government and the private sector better manage their cybersecurity and communications risk.

In this position, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
- Assess new systems design methodologies to improve software quality; implementation activities.
- Identify need for changes based on new security technologies or threats.
- Review and evaluate security incident response policies.
- Conduct risk and vulnerability assessments of planned and installed information systems.

To qualify at the GS-09 level, applicants must meet one of the following: A. A. I have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include activities such as following established procedures in assisting in: 1) maintaining IT system security documentation; making periodic revisions, as directed, in response to new requirements or changes in policies; 2) making decisions on the most efficient methods for updating documentation; 3) monitoring and analyzing systems logs to identify systems security trends, and 4) monitoring system activities for potential security events. B. Have successfully completed a master's degree; or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to that degree at an accredited college or university in a field that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Such fields include computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.. NOTE: You must submit official or unofficial transcripts to support this requirement.
To qualify at the GS-11 level, applicants must meet one of the following: A. have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include activities such as:1)implementing security requirements 2)integrating security programs across disciplines and defining the scope and level of detail for security plans and policies; 3) assessing new design methodologies to improve software quality; and 4) identifying the need changes based on new security technologies or threats B. have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree (L.L.M, if related), that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform this work. Such fields include computer science, information science, information systems management, mathematics, statistics, operations research, or engineering or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts (official or unofficial) to verify this education. Otherwise, you will be found ineligible.
To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must meet the following: have at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include activities such as: 1) providing program management support to cybersecurity projects or programs; 2) analyzing information technology security program implications of new technologies or technology upgrades; 3) documenting requirements, capabilities, and constraints for system design, procedures and processes; and 4) assessing design constraints, trade-offs, and detailed system and security designs to identify necessary lifecycle support.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
