Job Summary : The Cancer Data Manager is responsible for managing the Cancer Registry. The Manager also assists in coordination of facility-wide Cancer Program operations. Creates a common vision of excellence to facilitate achievement of continuous quality improvement in maintenance, creation and management of clinical databases. Understands the importance of patient privacy.
Collaborates with other disciplines in support of WFH’s mission and vision. Assumes as leadership role in planning, directing and managing the registry and registry staff to assure quality service. Responsible for meeting CoC (Commission on Cancer) Standards, complying with corporate policy and procedures, for managing supplies and equipment, and ensuring appropriate resource management. Follows policies and procedures of West Florida Hospital. Participates in the Quality Improvement process and adheres to WFH standards of behavior.
Essential Functions : Manages stress appropriately and can make decisions under pressure, handle multiple priorities, work in areas that are confined and /or crowded. Light duty with periods of standing, lifting, stooping, bending, walking, talking, answering telephones, using computer. Must be able to work alone with very little direct supervision. Attendance is essential to this role.
Education : Associate’s Degree required. Degree in health-related field strongly preferred. Completion of human anatomy and medical terminology classes preferred. Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) required or CTR eligible within one year of hire.
Experience : Minimum 2 years experience in healthcare setting. Experience in Cancer Registry, Health Information Management, Medical Records, or a medical office preferred
Skills/Abilities : Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and disease processes required. Organizational, critical thinking, multi-tasking, and communication skills in a detail-oriented, customer- focused organization are required. Knowledgeable of various Microsoft applications required, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to demonstrate good leadership and team building skills. Ability to provide, comprehend, or follow written and verbal instructions and type 45 words per minute required.
